LETTER: Poet GAWAINE ROSS comments on The Chickasaw Plum article

by David Rovic in April 2009, The Israeli Terror

Hi John,

I’ve just read the newest issue. That was a great poem by Alma, and I love your continuing story.  It’s good that you know the Bible so well, you use its own words to condemn it.

As for the history of Israel, it is very difficult to get an unbiased history out of that part of the world.  My only quibble is this: Zionists about 1900 decided it was time to immigrate to Palestine. They arrived slowly at first, buying land to settle on. When WW1 ended they came in much faster, now buying land from absentee landlords. They evicted their Palestinian tenants (this would be legal anywhere in the world) to start farming the land themselves. There was frequent rioting. Since Palestine was a British protectorate, they tried to come up with a solution to the problem, with the result that they were hit with terrorist attacks from both sides. (Menachem Begin was one of these terrorists.) It was only after WWII that the immigration became a flood and that’s when serious fighting  broke out, and the region has remained mother of hatred ever since.

But I did not know about the dual system of laws in Israel. I like Jews, but not Israel. I think the USA should immediately stop supporting Israel. The country has been dependent upon the USA ever since 1949. If she can’t stand on her own by now, she’ll never be able to. With American support cut off, we could probably get significant concessions from both sides.

Take care my friend!
